We would like to acknowledge and honour the pioneering members of Mura Kosker Sorority Incorporated and those who have helped establish and build the organisation.
Founded in 1988, Mura Kosker Sorority Incorporated is an incorporated community organisation with a Board comprising Inner Island and Island Cluster Representatives, appointed for a period of two years.
The organisation was initially formed to address specific education and health issues that affected the lives of women and their families. A range of programs and services were delivered to meet the social, emotional, educational, economic, health, cultural, spiritual and welfare needs of women, children and their families. These programs have always been premised on respecting human rights, self-determination, cultural respect and safety.
Today, Mura Kosker Sorority Incorporated is a solidified service provider for the entire Torres Strait region. With strong brand recall and positive reputation, the organisation continues to provide much needed family wellbeing services to our region.
From advocation to crisis support, our organisation helps women, men and children. The organisation has evolved and expanded its services to keep families and communities safe and strong.
Mura Kosker Sorority Incorporated has worked to reverse the levels of disadvantage for women, children and their families living in the Torres Strait region, by empowering families and strengthening communities.
