Communities across the Torres Strait are invited to attend local family-friendly events in September to celebrate Child Protection Week (6-12 September 2020). The main event is a family-fun day that will be hosted in all communities on Thursday 10th of September 2020.
Facilitated by the Child and Family Support Team, these events encourage families and communities to come together and celebrate our children. The theme this year is “protecting children is EVERYONE’s business.”
Working with the Torres Strait Islander Regional Council, Torres Shire Council and Prescribed Body Corporates in the region, Mura Kosker Sorority Board President Mrs Regina Turner said: “We are excited to share these events, especially as it promotes the strong message of child safety within the home and community.”
“Mura Kosker Sorority are committed to delivering these events, following COVID-19 precautions and safety measures,” Mrs Turner said.
Mura Kosker Sorority Chief Executive Officer, Aletia Twist said: “We have devised a COVID-19 Safety Plan and staff are being trained to ensure all events adhere to local and state COVID-19 health regulations.”
“Health and safety are a key priority in planning these events. We will have a registrations table and an attendance limit. We also ask that if anyone is feeling unwell, please stay home and seek medical advice and testing at your local Health Clinic,” Ms Twist added.
Child Protection Week will reignite Mura Kosker Sorority’s 2020 events calendar as Information Sessions are also scheduled for September 2020.
“The Mura Kosker Sorority Information Sessions offers communities the chance to learn more about our services, support and resources available,” Ms Twist explained.
“Communities will learn about our programs including Family and Domestic Violence support services, Family Wellbeing support including budgeting, cooking and parenting skills, Child and Family Support programs and support programs for our elderly through the Older Peoples Action Program,” Ms Twist added.
All community members are invited to the Information Sessions and Mura Kosker Sorority will also offer a complimentary BBQ and child-minding activities.
The first Outer Island Information Session will be held in the Kubin Community from 10am – 2pm on the 16th of September 2020, followed by an evening session in the St Pauls Community from 6pm – 8:30pm.
These events build awareness and highlights important wellbeing support programs that Mura Kosker Sorority provides for the Zenadth Kes (Torres Strait) region. Mura Kosker Sorority are dedicated to keeping our families safe and strong.
