About the Older Peoples Action Program

One of the most vulnerable sectors in our Torres Strait communities are the elderly, frail and those considered as senior citizens. The Older People’s Action Program (OPAP), offers elders support to engage with their communities, maintain their independence and connect with much needed services.

Our elders support team travel to outer island communities to assist elders and we also have Outreach Workers based in most communities. These professionals can provide immediate support and assistance to elders who may not have readily-available family support.

Program benefits

OPAP helps seniors to improve their social participation in their communities, reduce their fear of crime and increase their sense of safety and security.
