Mura Kosker Sorority welcomes Ms Aletia Twist as the organisation’s first Chief Executive Officer.

Ms Twist joins the team after several years with Apunipima Cape York Health Council where she was the North Area Manager for Aurukun, Mapoon, Napranum, Coen and Lockhart River.

Welcoming Aletia to the organisation, Mura Kosker Sorority Board President Mrs Regina Turner said: “We acknowledge the leadership by our previous Managers, and the Board are excited to welcome Aletia to the organisation, as our first CEO.”

Aletia started her role in March 2020, during the initial outbreak of COVID-19. Her first task as CEO was to ensure the safety of staff and the continuity of service delivery in our region. Mrs Turner said: “Aletia was proactive in crisis management and prepared a COVID-19 Safety Plan to protect the organisation and its staff.”

“We are grateful to have had Aletia lead Mura Kosker Sorority through the pandemic, ensuring that our clients continued to receive support and resources.”

Mura Kosker Sorority’s need for a CEO was identified in 2019, amidst Strategic Planning for the future of the organisation.

“Mura Kosker Sorority has provided family and community wellbeing services for over 32 years, and after in-depth Board deliberations, our new direction and five-year Strategic Plan called for structural changes, and the appointment of a Chief Executive Officer,” explained Mrs Turner.

Now with COVID-19 safety measures in place, Aletia has time to focus on implementing the Strategic Plan and navigating the organisation towards its vision.

Ms Aletia Twist said: “I have had the pleasure of working with Mura Kosker Sorority for the past few months and am looking forward to what the future holds for the organisation.”

“Keeping within current restrictions and guidelines, we are returning to as normal operations as possible and reinstating our 2020 events calendar with community visits, a Child Protection Week Celebration and Mura Kosker Sorority Information Sessions across the region,” Ms Twist added.

In line with organisational growth, Mura Kosker Sorority have also been recruiting new team members. Mr BJ Saylor comes to Mura Kosker Sorority as a Support Worker in the Elders Support Program, alongside existing Support Worker, Ms Sarah Warria.  A dedicated Mura Kosker Sorority position has also been allocated to each of the outer islands and recruitment is nearly complete.
